King James' School

The Governing Body

The King James’s Governing Body is made up of 15 Governors:

  • two Parent Governors who are elected by parents and are parents (or carers) of a child at the school. Their role is to give a parent’s perspective on discussions and decisions - to speak as parents, not for parents
  • one Local Authority Governor who is nominated by the Local Authority and appointed by the Governing Body
  • two Staff Governors (the Head plus one member of staff elected by and from staff at the school)
  • ten Co-opted Governors who are appointed by the Governing Body based on skills.

The standard term of office for a governor is four years. The Chair and Vice Chair are elected annually at the first meeting of the academic year.

In December 2015 the Governing Body decided to move away from the committee structure used in the past. All business will now be considered at full governing body meetings, with working groups set up to consider specific issues as needed.
