The Knaresborough Rotary Young Musician of the Year event will take place on Saturday 22nd November at King James´s School.
The competition will take place during the morning and afternoon, followed by an evening concert that will include performances by the winners in the four age categories, together with contributions by school groups. The object is to provide an opportunity to witness the achievements of young people in our area.
Although a competition sounds intimidating the adjudicators will give encouragement and helpful advice - they are there to encourage an enjoyment in and playing of music. It also provides the opportunity to meet other musicians and to perform in front of a wider audience.
There are four age categories:
In each age group there are six instrumental categories: piano/keyboard, brass, wind (including recorders), strings (including guitars), percussion and voice. Alongside these individual categories there will be the opportunity to enter groups of up to four players (plus accompanist if required).
The more entrants, the better the event will be! No examination levels are required - just the enjoyment of playing music. Entrants can choose their own music, subject to time limits, which can consist of more than one piece.
Entry sheets are available from Mr Barker in the Music Department or can be downloaded from the Rotary website: www.knaresborough.rotary1040.org
