Star athlete George Davies is celebrating after a javelin PB took him to gold on his international debut.
George, who has just finished Year 11, produced the performance of his life, throwing a personal best of 70.07m at the SIAB Under-17 international track and field competition in Cardiff on July 19 to give him his first win for England.
That performance bettered his throw of nearly 68m for North Yorkshire at the English Schools Track & Field Competition in Birmingham the weekend before, which qualified him for his international debut.
Two other KJS athletes also represented North Yorkshire at the Birmingham event. Year 12 student Josie Parry competed in the senior girls’ hurdles event and was also part of the county’s 4 x 100m relay team that achieved a national standard time.
Millie Howard (Year 11) achieved a personal best and national standard time to reach the final of the intermediate girls’ 800m, eventually finishing in sixth place. As a result of this, Millie will now go on to represent the North East of England at the UK School Games in Manchester in September.
Congratulations to all three athletes and good luck for the rest of the season.
