England success for cricket star

Cricketing Sixth Former Eddie Barnes was part of an Under-17 England Development Programme squad that travelled to Dubai last month to play Pakistan Under-17s.

The tour consisted of three one-day matches and a three-day match. In his debut one-day match, seam bowler Eddie took a wicket but the team suffered a narrow defeat.

However, in the final one-day match of the series, Eddie went on to play a key part in a fine win, taking 3-18 from nine overs to set the tone for a great bowling performance by the England team.

“This was my first time away with England,” said Eddie. “It was quite tough, 18 days of training and playing with only one rest day, and it was pretty hot. But it was an amazing experience. I’ve met some great people and it’s really developed me as a cricketer.”

The ECB’s Head Coach picked Eddie out for special praise following the match: “Today’s victory represents the hard work that all of the players have put in since arriving out here. They have continued to adapt to the conditions and become more and more consistent in their delivery of their skills.

“Eddie Barnes epitomised our approach with his relentless spells of bowling, picking up wickets at a miserly rate.”
