The Fun Run and Gala is having a relaunch - and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever!
The event organised and hosted by KJS for the local community will now be known as the Rock and Run Gala, with the focus on running, assault course, music and live bands plus a great variety of new stalls, activities and entertainment.
And the good news is that if you’re in training you have more time to get fit, as the gala is being moved to Sunday June 28, from 12 noon-6pm.
The running events will now all be held on the school fields. The courses used in past years, run on public roads, have become increasingly difficult and costly to manage to meet tighter health and safety requirements. Business Manager Justin Waters said: “It was difficult to come to this conclusion, but we have to take into consideration professional recommendations and the feedback of the residents and marshals on the route.”
The ever-popular family Fun Run will now be a 3k course and organisers are hoping several hundred runners will take part, including pupils from all the local primary schools. For those looking for a faster race there will be a special 5k sprint course.
New for this year there will also be assault course challenges. Older children can take on the Rock and Run Junior Assault, an obstacle challenge over 4k for 12-16-year-olds, while more serious runners and club athletes can test themselves in the Rock and Run 5k race with obstacles.
Mr Waters said: “It was important for us maintain the focus and challenge of the run by creating an assault course and keeping the 3k element. A live music stage promises to make it a lively festival atmosphere, with local bands providing entertainment through the afternoon.”
Refreshment options will include a Pimms and real ale tent, supported with stalls and BBQs.
