Party time shows community spirit

The annual Senior Citizens’ Summer Party, held on 8th July, was a great example of the school working with the local community.

Year 13 students hosted around 110 guests for an afternoon of live entertainment, with performances from musicians and singers, and bingo and a raffle, for which prizes had been generously donated by many Knaresborough shops and companies. The Year 10 Hospitality students had decorated the tables and made and served a wonderful afternoon tea, with savouries, cakes, strawberries and a steady service of tea!

Knaresborough Lions kindly supported the event by running two mini-buses to pick up and take home those guests who would otherwise have been unable to get here.

The visitors thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and were all really appreciative of our students’ efforts. One guest stood to make a spontaneous speech of thanks at the end, stressing how much it meant to the elderly people present to mix with the young people of our town in such an enjoyable social event. For many it was a highlight of their social calendar, she said!
