King James’s welcomed three new members of staff to the Leadership Team this term.

Deputy Head Hannah Millett joined from Thirsk School and Sixth Form, Assistant Head Clair Foden, the new Director of Sixth Form, was also at Thirsk, and Assistant Head Helen Handley came from Ryedale School.

Mrs Millett is in charge of Curriculum and Standards at KJS, focusing on providing a quality curriculum for all students. Her other responsibilities include delivering literacy across the school and staff recruitment.

I feel extremely lucky to work at such a wonderful place. Staff, governors, students and parents have all made me feel incredibly welcome and the positive, community ethos that underpins everything soon makes you feel that you have been here a lot longer than you have!” said Mrs Millett.

“Looking after the curriculum at a time of such intense national change is an exciting challenge that I look forward to tackling over the coming months.”

Miss Foden will be shaping the direction of post-16 education, working to equip Sixth Formers with the skills to progress with confidence and providing a broad and balanced curriculum that allows all students to thrive and study what they are passionate about.

Like Mrs Millett her first impressions have been positive. “What a friendly and welcoming staff, who work really hard to give their all to our students!

“There are a lot of opportunities for students to get involved in outside and inside the classroom which gives a real vibrancy to the school,” said Miss Foden.

Mrs Handley’s prime focus is Student Services, supporting the Deputy Head in overseeing the pastoral care of pupils and also leading work around attendance, Student Voice, high attaining students, PSHCEE, careers and admissions.

Like her colleagues Mrs Handley is relishing her new role. “I am very excited about my new challenge at King James´s and really looking forward to helping such an excellent school move forward.”
