Praise, Recognition & Sanctions
The school rules are embodied in a code of conduct that form tutors discuss with all students throughout the school year. In order to reinforce this, we ask all students and parents to sign a home-school agreement with us. This makes clear how we can all support the aims of the school in a spirit of partnership.
Our focus is very much on recognising and praising students appropriately and consistently. Our rewards in school are generated through teacher assessments of students´ attitude to learning in lessons and teachers demonstrate praise by giving students stamps in their planner and clean slates on our Bromcom tracking system. This leads to students receiving ´Well Done´ e-postcards, certificates and being entered for an end-of-year rewards prize draw in the rewards assembly.
At the end of each academic year we hold a formal prizegiving ceremony, which parents are encouraged to attend.
Poor behaviour that breaks the school code of conduct is dealt with by appropriate sanctions, such as a daily report card and/or detentions (at break, lunchtime and after school). For more serious offences, students are placed in referral (internal exclusion) or they are excluded at home. We endeavour to inform parents of all behaviour that affects the climate for learning in the school.
