Pre-loved Uniform Donations
If you would like to donate good condition pre-loved uniform, please place items in a bag labelled ‘For the attention of: Family Support Officer’. We would gratefully receive donations via our school’s main reception.
Outdoor Clothing
Both boys and girls should wear outdoor clothing that is in keeping with school uniform. Coats that protect against the variable British weather should be worn over the blazer, not under. We discourage expensive fashion jackets that are not practical.
Coats and outdoor clothing should not be worn inside the school building.
Students must not bring expensive clothing items onto the school site because of the risk of damage, loss or theft. School will not accept responsibility for replacement or repair of any items, or reimbursement of any sum of money.
Specialist Clothing
In order to protect their ordinary school clothing, it is essential that all students wear an apron when they are taking part in design activities, and we strongly recommend that these are also used in science lessons. Suitable aprons may be purchased at the uniform stockists.
It is parents’ responsibility to ensure that students have the necessary equipment and clothing for all activities, including waterproofs, effective sun-screening and hats when necessary.
Lost Property
All personal property brought onto the school premises is done so at the owner’s risk. The school can accept no responsibility for loss or damage of students’ personal property unless the items are handed to a member of staff who has accepted responsibility for their safekeeping.
To minimise the possibility of property being lost:
- All students and their parents are asked to make sure that equipment and all items of clothing (including coats) are suitably labelled with the student’s name so that lost property can be returned to its owner whenever possible. Any named items will be given to the year team and kept in the year offices for collection.
- Students are asked not to bring valuable items or large sums of money into school. School will not accept responsibility for replacement or repair of any such items or reimbursement of any sums of money.
- Students are asked to make sure that all their personal property is kept safely on their person. During PE lessons, students are given the option of handing items to a member of PE staff who will then secure them in a locked room for the duration of the lesson.
Should your child be unfortunate enough to lose something, they should:
- Retrace their steps, including the last place they were and the classrooms they have been in that day.
- Check the large lost property bins that are located around school.
High value items found such as mobile phones, keys etc will be handed in and kept at the main school reception.
All unnamed and unclaimed lost property, including coats, will be kept for a full term, after which it will be donated to charity, reused by pupils at King James’s School or sold for the purpose of school fundraising. High value items will be retained for the academic year, after which time the same processes will apply.
Unnamed school uniform and PE kit in good condition will be donated to our pre-loved uniform store.
